On this edition of Parallax Views, I speak with author Elizabeth Sandifer about her book Neoreaction: A Basilisk (Erudutorum Press, 2017).
In our discussion we do a deep dive into the title essay about Neoreaction or NRx, which Elizabeth describes as the "intellectual" (we use that word lightly) wing of the alt right. This leads down many bizarre rabbit holes about Thomas Ligotti's ideas about philosophy and horror, the kooky but adorable AI researcher Elizier Yudkowsky, the less adorable Mencius Moldbug, the alternately tragic, revolting, and bizarre figure of the apocalyptic ex-University of Warwick professor Nick Land, the Austrian School of Economics and libertarian thinker Murray Rothbard, Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel, a side journey into the world of TERFs (Trans Exlcusionary Radical Feminists), and the wild reptilian conspiracy theories of David Icke. It's an at times equal parts funny, morbid, and wild edition of Parallax Views.
